The universe

I would firstly like to say, please be mindful that these are only my opinions, and while I am sure that there are many out there that would love to rip this apart, I am always happy for a discussion. Actually one of my favorite things in life is a great conversation, especially with someone whom does not agree and knows what they are talking about.

We live (as a species) on a rock that rotates one time everyday, it orbits a star one time every 365 days. There are billions of human beings living here, many of us have different beliefs, different ideals, different hopes, different dreams, different fears, different faiths; some believe in religion, some don't, some believe in theories, some don't. But life is one of things that we all share, for whatever that may mean to each individual; we share a home, we share the air, the water, the sky and the sun. We each also share the reality of death. There is one last thing we share and this is the purpose of my topic tonight, we all experience.

Human beings learn. That is arguably our best and most important attribute. Learning is what got us out of the caves, how we harnessed fire, and the wheel, civilization, science, art, and digging to the root of things language. Language is our ability to express our ideas to those around us, and is (besides learning) the reason that we have become the apex species (as far as we know) of this planet.

So let's explore this ideal. On a planet where most people struggle to agree, or even live on the same rock with their neighbors from the beginning of time; some how we have gotten to a place of civilization where we have technology that expands and advances everyday. Scientists that change the world and cures and changes the world with advancements in how we understand what happens to us as a creature, and how to fix it. Science that works to discover the building blocks of everything from the very first level of what makes up everything. Scientists that explore the universe around us to understand our place in the vast scape around us. Each day we learn more, look farther, deeper, smaller and we have epiphany! All of this from a species that appears to hate each other, on a rock spinning in a void, in a planetary "Goldilocks region" on a spiral arm of the milkyway.

So here is the question, why? We are basically primates that learned a few tricks and then ended up in a place to ask these types of questions. So again why? And now on to my point, and for that point, my opinion on the actual point of the universe. The point is to know, and to be known! Take all life out of the equation, and then explain the universe. Atoms, subatomic particles, one thing spinning around another, what is there that is more meaningful than to be understood, and to understand that which is around us. So immortality is that! The cycle is to learn. To be experienced and to experience. So to anyone that actually reads this, find the universe as your classroom, your teacher and your student.
